River Ecosystem

Maintaining and improving the health of the river ecosystem is a a major aim of the group. Water quality is impacted by  water running off the land, hence the whole catchment impacts the river health. The health of the waterway can be measured by the presence of a bio-diversity of macro-invertebrates (insects and other tiny organisms), fish and frogs and other creatures that depend on the waterway. Native plants, esp reeds act to filter the water and slow flow, producing better water quality. Red gums and other plants also help with the health of the river, decreasing erosion and providing important habitat.
