Established in 1983, in South Australia, the Australian Society of Sport Administrators aims to achieve excellence in sport through the professional development of sport management at all levels. As a national organisation for people engaged in managing sport, whether paid or voluntary, the society is about disseminating information appropriate to the developmental needs of people who manage and administer sport in Australia.
ASSA operates through a network of state chapters and regional branches to deliver a range of information and services to members within the sport and recreation industry. ASSA produces a range of educational resources including the National Accreditation Scheme for Sport Administrators and has been involved in the development of the Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP).
The Level 1 and 2 ASSA courses are part of a comprehensive and up-to-date education and information program aimed at meeting the needs of the voluntary and salaried sports administrator. They are designed to enhance the administrative and management skills of administrators and are nationally recognised. They provide practical sports administration education for club, regional, state and national sporting organisations. Participants access course materials on line and receive certificates upon the satisfactory completion of these courses.
